Murder Mystery: Cops Seek Info In Spotsylvania Double Homicide

Investigators have renewed their call for information as they continue probing last month’s double homicide in Spotsylvania.

A fresh call for details regarding the January murder of two people has been made by investigators as they probe the double fatal shooting last month.

Deputies were called to the 10800 block of Heatherwood Drive around 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25, after a concerned friend reported not hearing from one of the residents.

Upon entering the home, the friend found the body of a woman and immediately called 911, according to the sheriff's office.

When deputies arrived, they located both 61-year-old Charles Childress and 59-year-old Kimberly Newcomb dead inside the home.

Detectives determined that both victims had suffered fatal injuries, and the case is being investigated as a homicide.

An autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner confirmed both victims were shot multiple times, investigators said on Tuesday, Jan. 28.

Detectives have not determined how the two victims were connected, but authorities confirmed they lived together at the time of their deaths.

The circumstances surrounding the killings remain under investigation, with "detectives working around the clock," officials said.

On Friday, Feb. 14, the sheriff’s office asked neighbors for information as the search for the shooter continues.

"Detectives are requesting citizens in that area who may have observed any suspicious activity, have video footage, or have any information, no matter how seemingly insignificant, between Monday, Jan. 20, to Saturday, Jan. 25, to please contact the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office."
